BirdyTwice is turning post-breakup confusion into shimmering pop catharsis. The rising Danish artist released her new single “Broken Hearts Club” on Friday, May 15, introducing what she describes as the beginning of a larger “Heartbreak Era” set to continue throughout 2026.
Built around warm retro textures, glossy synth-pop hooks, and emotionally direct songwriting, “Broken Hearts Club” transforms a strangely specific romantic experience into something surprisingly universal. The track centers on the surreal realization that every woman connected to the same relationship begins to resemble one another — emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, BirdyTwice explained how the concept emerged after noticing eerie similarities between herself and her ex-boyfriend’s former partner. “When my ex-boyfriend and I got together, I was surprised by how much I looked like his ex — like, eerily similar,” she said. “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, you really have a type,’ and I quickly started to feel less special.”
That emotional spiral eventually became the emotional core of the single. Rather than framing heartbreak purely through sadness, BirdyTwice reshapes it into a sense of accidental community. “When we broke up, I suddenly felt this strong bond with his other exes. We had so much in common,” she continued. “The strangest part is that his new girlfriend looks like me too. And honestly, all I can say is: welcome to the club, girl.”
The release marks an important early moment for the Copenhagen-based singer-songwriter, born Alberte Veirum Larsen, whose growing profile within the Nordic pop scene has been fueled by a combination of emotional transparency and playful aesthetic identity. Her music blends Scandinavian melancholy with bright, highly melodic pop production.
BirdyTwice describes that contrast as central to both her personality and creative process. Raised in Northern Jutland before relocating to Copenhagen, she says her songwriting reflects multiple emotional extremes existing simultaneously. “I believe everyone contains multiple sides,” she explained. “Personally, I love unfolding all of them — the bitter and the sweet, the beautiful and the ugly.”
Now, “Broken Hearts Club” serves as the first chapter in an ongoing narrative era expected to continue across multiple releases throughout 2026.
