The milestone was confirmed by Spotify, which reported that Rodrigo’s third studio album achieved the biggest single-day streaming debut by a female artist on the platform this year on June 12. The achievement arrives amid a wave of commercial momentum that has immediately followed the album’s release.
Released on June 12 via Geffen Records, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love entered the market with enormous anticipation following the success of its two advance singles, “Drop Dead” and “The Cure.”
The project has also made an immediate impact beyond streaming. Within hours of release, the album climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Albums Chart, signaling strong fan demand across both streaming and digital purchase platforms.
Rodrigo first launched the album campaign on April 17 with “Drop Dead,” a synth-driven pop anthem that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The achievement extended her record as the first artist to see the lead singles from her first three studio albums debut atop the chart.
Momentum continued on May 22 with the release of “The Cure.” The acoustic-driven ballad became another global hit, reaching No. 1 in multiple international territories while debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also opened atop Spotify’s Daily Global Chart with more than 7 million streams, quickly establishing itself as one of the defining songs of Rodrigo’s career.
A third single, “Stupid Song,” arrived alongside the album on June 12 together with a music video filmed primarily in New York City. The visual followed weeks of anticipation from fans after snippets of the track circulated online during the album rollout.
