Beyoncé has expanded the Morning Dew (Donk) era with a surprise release. In the early hours of August 5, the pop icon dropped a four-track remix EP for the single, led by a brand-new version featuring Jay-Z, who is credited as JAŸ-Z.
The remix package was announced through Parkwood Entertainment just weeks after the original song arrived on July 4, giving fans an unexpected new take on Beyoncé’s new song.
The standout remix introduces Jay-Z’s first newly released verse in several years, ending a lengthy recording hiatus. While the original “Morning Dew (Donk)” leaned into a dreamy, mid-tempo R&B atmosphere, the updated version injects more energy through interpolations of Sheck Wes’ “Mo Bamba,” Soulja Boy’s “Donk,” and The Isley Brothers’ “Between the Sheets.” Jay-Z’s verse plays on the couple’s long-running musical chemistry, recalling the flirtatious dynamic of “Drunk in Love.”
Originally recorded during sessions for Beyoncé’s landmark 2013 self-titled album, “Morning Dew (Donk)” spent years circulating among fans after a demo leaked online in 2023. The unfinished version quickly became a viral TikTok sound and developed a devoted following before Beyoncé officially reworked and released the song this summer. Co-written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixson, with production handled by Beyoncé and Pharrell, the track celebrates the excitement of a lasting relationship through playful double entendres.
The official release debuted at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also reaching No. 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and No. 3 on Hot R&B Songs. Although early fan speculation suggested the single might launch Beyoncé’s long-rumored third act following Cowboy Carter, Parkwood later confirmed that the song instead serves as the lead single from the 20th Anniversary Edition of B’Day, arriving September 4.
