Billie Eilish is officially looking beyond Hit Me Hard and Soft. In a new interview with Elle, the 24-year-old confirmed that her fourth studio album is already deep in development, offering the clearest update yet on what comes next: “Oh yeah! We’re more than halfway [done].”
The comment marks a significant turning point after nearly two years of speculation surrounding her post-Hit Me Hard and Soft direction. Since the release of her third album in May 2024, fans have dissected everything from lyrical clues to visual motifs for signs of unreleased material. Early theories centered on the possibility of a double album, fueled by the closing line on “Blue” — “but when can I hear the next one?” — alongside the recurring blue-and-red imagery tied to the “ilomilo” symbolism from her 2019 debut era.
At the time, Billie and longtime collaborator Finneas largely sidestepped direct confirmation. During a 2024 Apple Music conversation with Zane Lowe, she famously smiled through questions about whether more music was already waiting. That ambiguity only intensified online conversation, with listeners building elaborate theories around companion records, hidden chapters, and expanded storytelling. Now, two years later, her Elle quote suggests the reality may be less about a secret second half and more about a fully realized next era already taking shape.
Billie’s confirmation arrives during one of the busiest stretches of her career. Her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour has grossed $213.3 million across 83 shows, officially becoming the highest-grossing tour by an artist born in the 21st century. The milestone places her ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s previous benchmark.
Simultaneously, Billie is preparing for the May 8 global theatrical release of Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), her immersive concert film directed alongside James Cameron. Filmed during her 2025 Manchester stop, the project blends performance footage with VR innovation through partnerships with Lightstorm Entertainment and Meta, positioning it as her most technologically ambitious visual release to date.
