Bruno Mars has just made music history. According to the latest RIAA certification update, the singer’s 2010 hit “Just the Way You Are” has been certified 21x Platinum, officially becoming the highest-certified single in U.S. history.
The milestone means the song has sold an astonishing 21 million units in the United States alone, surpassing Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower”, which previously held the record with a 2x Diamond certification (20 million units).

The achievement marks another major milestone in Bruno Mars’ already legendary career. “Just the Way You Are” was his debut solo single, released in August 2010 as the lead track from his first studio album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Written and produced by Mars alongside Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine, Khalil Walton, and Needlz, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100, won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, and helped launch Mars into global superstardom.
In addition to this landmark certification, Bruno Mars’ catalog received several new updates on the RIAA database this week. Among the highlights:
• “Grenade” – 16x Platinum
• “The Lazy Song” – Diamond (10x Platinum)
• “Marry You” – 7x Platinum
• “Talking to the Moon” – 6x Platinum
• “Count On Me” – 5x Platinum
• “Runaway Baby” – 3x Platinum
• “Liquor Store Blues” – Platinum
• “Our First Time” – Gold
• Doo-Wops & Hooligans – 9x Platinum
“The Lazy Song”’s new Diamond certification brings Mars’ total number of Diamond singles to seven, tying him with The Weeknd and Rihanna as the third artist with the most Diamond-certified songs in RIAA history.
