Chappell Roan joined ROSALÍA during the final U.S. stop of the LUX Tour on July 6, stepping into the Spanish superstar’s “Confessionario” segment to share a deeply personal story about heartbreak. The pop star opened up about a pandemic-era romance that began with months of flirting, ended with sudden silence, and eventually inspired one of her songs.
The appearance took place during ROSALÍA’s latest sold-out concert, where the singer introduced Roan as “the icon, the legend” before handing over the spotlight for the emotional confession.
Roan’s story followed a similar moment from Lola Young’s own “Confessionario” appearance, which inspired the singer to revisit a painful experience from her past. She explained that watching Young share her own relationship story reminded her of a situation that happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she developed feelings for someone she was collaborating with creatively.
According to Roan, the connection started through songwriting sessions and gradually became something more personal. The two exchanged messages for approximately three months while maintaining a long-distance connection online, with Roan describing the relationship as a period where they constantly questioned whether their feelings were mutual. “It got to the point where it was like: ‘Are you flirting? Do you like this? Do you like me?’ And I was like: ‘Well… yes, obviously,’” she explained.
The situation escalated when Roan traveled alone to Los Angeles to meet the person for a date. After they kissed, she recalled feeling overwhelmed by the moment and believing that the relationship could become something meaningful.
However, the excitement quickly turned into confusion when the person stopped responding. Roan said she did not hear from them for four days after the date, despite the fact that they knew she had traveled specifically to spend time together. “I texted them asking: ‘What’s going on? We had our date, I had so much fun.’”
When she eventually reached out for clarity, the response left her shocked: the person told her they had met someone else. Roan said the timing was especially painful because the new relationship reportedly developed during the exact period when communication between them had suddenly stopped.
The singer also revealed that she later discovered the person had been talking to another artist who was also a friend of hers. While Roan acknowledged that dating multiple people can happen, she was hurt by comments suggesting the other person did not understand why she was upset because they viewed their connection as something casual.
Rather than letting the experience disappear, Roan transformed the heartbreak into music. She explained that the situation eventually became the inspiration behind one of her songs. “This person told that other artist, who was my friend, that they knew they should feel sad and care about me, but they just didn’t. They said they didn’t understand why I was so upset, because to them, it had only been something casual. In the end, this whole story became a song.”
ROSALÍA introduced the “Confessionario” format as part of the LUX Tour’s larger theatrical experience, giving guests a space to share stories instead of traditional performances. Earlier in the tour, Karol G joined the segment during ROSALÍA’s Los Angeles show on June 29, where she discussed a personal relationship experience in front of the audience.
