Doja Cat is standing firm in defense of her artistic choices. The Grammy-winning star responded to criticism surrounding the cover art for her upcoming album Vie, due September 26 via Kemosabe and RCA Records.
“You can’t make me feel bad for a cover that has visceral meaning,” Doja wrote hours after unveiling the official cover art. “The greatest armor is love and integrity. I forgive your harsh criticism but for me I won yet again for following my heart. If I was you I wouldn’t.”

Her comments came after one fan admitted the artwork didn’t quite align with the album’s aesthetic, writing: “i love you mother but this cover doesn’t match the aesthetic of the album, maybe it will grow on me.” Doja replied simply: “It’s the perfect cover.”
The debate over the artwork highlights the intense anticipation for Vie, which has already been framed as a major turning point in her career. In a recent CBS Sunday Morning interview, Doja previewed her upcoming single “Gorgeous” and explained her vision for the record. Built around shimmering synths and retro-pop production, the track continues the brighter, more polished direction first introduced with lead single “Jealous Type.” That song debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and logged the biggest Spotify debut of 2025 for a female rapper.
Doja emphasized that Vie reflects her evolution both as a rapper and a vocalist. “I feel like a rapper who makes pop music,” she said, noting how the new material pushed her vocal range in ways she hadn’t attempted before. Her confidence in the project marks a sharp contrast to her feelings about 2023’s Scarlet, which she later dismissed as an experiment that didn’t fully capture her vision. Vie, she insists, represents the sound she has been “perfecting since the beginning.”
Doja’s next chapter will also extend to the stage. Following the album’s release, she will launch the Tour Ma Vie world tour on November 18 in Auckland, New Zealand.
