Drake’s ICEMAN is already rewriting Spotify history less than 24 hours after release. According to Spotify, the rapper officially set three major platform records on May 15, becoming the most-streamed artist in a single day in 2026 while simultaneously landing the year’s most-streamed album and song in one day with ICEMAN and its opening track “Make Them Cry.”
The achievement arrives only hours after Drake surprise-released a three-album run consisting of ICEMAN, Maid of Honour, and Habibti, totaling 43 new tracks across hip-hop, trap, dancehall, and melodic rap territory. While full streaming numbers are expected to arrive on May 16, the immediate response confirms one thing clearly: Drake’s commercial dominance remains unmatched.
ICEMAN led the surge instantly upon release. The 18-track project debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Apple Music albums chart within hours, while companion albums Maid of Honour and Habibti completed a full Drake sweep of the platform’s top three positions. The same scenario unfolded on U.S. iTunes, where all three albums simultaneously occupied the entire top tier of the chart.
Spotify’s announcement pushes the momentum even further. “Make Them Cry,” the album’s opening track, emerged as the biggest single-day song debut of 2026 so far, surpassing BTS’ “Swim” (14.6M).
The explosive opening reflects months of anticipation surrounding ICEMAN. Drake began teasing the project as early as August 2024 through cryptic social media posts and the release of 100 Gigs before launching the now-infamous ICEMAN livestream rollout in 2025. Each “Episode” previewed unreleased music and cinematic visuals, eventually building toward Thursday night’s Episode 4 broadcast, which revealed the triple-album surprise only hours before release.
Promotion for the project became one of the most elaborate album campaigns of Drake’s career. In April 2026, a 25-foot ice sculpture appeared in downtown Toronto with the album’s release date hidden inside. Fans attacked the structure with pickaxes and hammers before authorities sealed off the area for safety concerns. Days later, projections lit up the CN Tower while speculation surrounding features, diss tracks, and leaked snippets intensified across social media.
Musically, ICEMAN leans heavily into dark, atmospheric production and direct lyrical confrontation. Tracks like “Make Them Pay,” “Make Them Remember,” and “Whisper My Name” contain apparent shots aimed at Kendrick Lamar, Playboi Carti, LeBron James, DJ Khaled, and J. Cole. Elsewhere, Drake reunites with Future on “Ran To Atlanta” alongside Molly Santana, while 21 Savage appears on “B’s On The Table.”
ICEMAN marks the Grammy-winning rapper’s first full-length solo studio album since For All the Dogs in 2023, following the collaborative project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U with PARTYNEXTDOOR in 2025.
Now attention turns toward the official global streaming totals expected this weekend.
