The American Music Awards (AMAs) have honored some of the most iconic names in music since their creation in 1973. As one of the most fan-driven award shows in the world, the AMAs reflect not just commercial success but also deep fan loyalty. Over the decades, the show has recognized artists from every genre—pop, rock, country, R&B, hip-hop, and beyond—who’ve made lasting contributions to the music industry. With the 51st annual AMAs taking place this year, it’s the perfect time to look back at the artists who hold the most AMA wins in history.

At the top of the list stands Taylor Swift, who has set a new standard with an unmatched 40 American Music Awards—more than any artist in history. Her wins span major categories like Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, and Favorite Music Video.

Michael Jackson ranks second with 26 AMA wins, a number that includes his record-breaking run in the 1980s, when Thriller changed the music world forever. Whitney Houston follows closely with 22 wins, celebrated for her powerful vocals and chart-topping hits that helped define pop and R&B.

Other legendary names on the list include Kenny Rogers (19), Alabama and Justin Bieber (18 each), Carrie Underwood and Garth Brooks (17 each), and Rihanna, who has amassed 13 AMAs to date, making her the most-awarded Black female artist in AMA history.
