Gracie Abrams is already looking ahead to her next musical chapter. In a new interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, published Tuesday (Oct. 28), the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter reflected on the success of her acclaimed sophomore album The Secret of Us and offered fans their first real glimpse into what’s coming next.
Abrams revealed that two songs — “I Told You Things” and “Death Wish” — are key indicators of her next artistic direction. “‘I Told You Things’ is my favorite song on the album,” she shared. “That song and ‘Death Wish’… it’s interesting making all the things that we’re making now. Those two songs have been such clues into what this next chapter feels like. And I’m enjoying it very much because it feels like a returning to the feelings that have historically compelled me to write songs.”

While “I Told You Things” was part of The Secret of Us era, “Death Wish” offers a preview of what’s to come. Abrams first debuted the unreleased track live at London’s O2 Arena earlier this year. Before performing it, she told the crowd, “A sincere friend of mine was recently dating someone who kind of sucked. And I was listening to them talk about it a lot, so this song is about that!” Although fans have been eagerly awaiting the studio version, only the live performance has surfaced so far.
Abrams’ second album, The Secret of Us, released on June 21, 2024, marked a defining moment in her career. Produced with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner, the album blends pop, folk, and indie influences. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and reached the top of charts in several countries, including the UK, Canada, and Australia. The project also featured the hit single “Us,” a duet with Taylor Swift, as well as fan favorites “Risk,” “Close to You,” and “I Love You, I’m Sorry.”
