Harry Styles delivered one of the most unexpected performances of his solo career on June 16, taking over London’s Royal Festival Hall for a special orchestral concert as part of the 2026 Meltdown Festival. Backed by the acclaimed Jules Buckley Orchestra, the singer stepped away from stadium-sized spectacle in favor of an intimate, carefully curated set that blended fan favorites, deep cuts, and classic covers.

The performance carried added significance because Styles is serving as curator of the 31st edition of Meltdown Festival, the prestigious artist-led event hosted annually at London’s Southbank Centre. Past curators have included David Bowie, Patti Smith, Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, and Little Simz. This year’s lineup reflects Styles’ wide-ranging musical influences, bringing together artists from jazz, indie rock, electronic music, soul, and experimental scenes.

Rather than leaning heavily on chart hits, Styles used the evening to showcase a more reflective side of his catalog. The concert opened with “Boyfriends,” one of the standout tracks from Harry’s House, before moving into “Paint By Numbers.” Fan-favorite “Matilda” followed, while orchestral interludes performed by Buckley helped transform the show into something closer to a contemporary symphonic production than a traditional pop concert.

The evening featured two notable covers. Styles delivered a rendition of Patrick Watson’s “Here Comes The River” before closing the concert with Simon & Garfunkel’s timeless classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

The special performance arrives during a busy period for the singer. Earlier this week, the London leg of his Together, Together Tour reached Wembley Stadium, where he performed alongside support act Shania Twain. The massive global trek supports his fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., and includes a historic 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden later this year.

For one night, however, Styles traded stadiums for strings and spotlights for subtlety.
