Kendrick Lamar delivered one of the most touching moments of his career during his performance at Spilt Milk Festival in Canberra on December 13. Midway through his set, the Grammy-winning rapper abruptly paused the show after noticing a sign held high in the crowd. It belonged to Kalina, a 9-year-old fan celebrating her birthday.

Instead of continuing the performance, Lamar addressed the crowd and led thousands of fans in a heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Moments later, Lamar went a step further, signing and gifting Kalina a pgLang hat from his creative company. The young fan was visibly overwhelmed, wiping away tears as the crowd erupted in applause.

The heartwarming interaction took place as Lamar wrapped up the Australian leg of his Grand National Tour, which supported his critically acclaimed album GNX. Unlike the North American and European dates, which were co-headlined with SZA, the Australian shows featured Lamar as a solo headliner, with support from ScHoolboy Q and Doechii on select nights.

Notably, Lamar and SZA officially made history with the Grand National Tour becoming the highest-grossing hip-hop tour of all time. The run generated $332.1 million in revenue, sold over 1.5 million tickets, and averaged nearly $10 million per show across 39 dates worldwide. The tour also became the highest-grossing co-headlining tour in music history.
