The path to Mayhem
In 2020, Lady Gaga released her critically acclaimed album Chromatica but didn’t start working on new material until 2022. That year, she was focused on her Chromatica Ball Tour but began teasing new music by sharing photos from the studio. The album was recorded at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California, with Gaga collaborating with producers such as Andrew Watt, Cirkut, and Gesaffelstein.
A first tease of LG7 arrived with the release of Gaga: Chromatica Ball, a concert film that concluded with a snippet of unreleased music. Later, Gaga performed at the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, where fans caught glimpses of two new songs. In summer 2024, she also teamed up with Bruno Mars on the record-breaking “Die With a Smile”, which wasn’t originally intended to be part of the album but was added due to its massive success.
A few weeks later, she unveiled “Disease” as the first single from the album. More recently, during the 2025 Grammy Awards, she released “Abracadabra,” which instantly became a fan favorite.
