The first New Music Friday of March 2025 was one of the biggest of the year. Lady Gaga made her long-awaited return with Mayhem, her highly anticipated seventh studio album, which has been met with widespread acclaim from both critics and fans. BLACKPINK’s Jennie also joined her bandmates—Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa—in releasing her debut solo album, Ruby. The full-length project has already captured fans’ attention for its versatility and was voted by the InMusic community as the best solo effort from a BLACKPINK member. In the K-pop scene, J-Hope enlisted R&B star Miguel for his new solo single, “Sweet Dreams,” which arrives just as he embarks on his headlining Hope on Stage tour. Meanwhile, newly crowned Grammy winner Doechii dropped the solo version of “Anxiety,”her latest collaboration with fellow rapper Sleepy Hallow.

As always, InMusic polled fans on X (formerly Twitter) to determine the week’s favorite release. Lady Gaga’s Mayhem dominated with an astonishing 96% of the vote—likely one of the highest scores ever in our polls—while Jennie’s Ruby (3%) and Doechii’s “Anxiety” (1%) followed.
Clearly, Mayhem has struck a chord with music lovers. The album marks a return to Gaga’s early dance-pop roots, blending elements of synth-pop and house music. It was preceded by the global hits “Die with a Smile,” “Disease,” and “Abracadabra.” Upon release, the entire album charted on Spotify’s Daily Global Chart on March 7, debuting with over 45 million streams. Beyond the singles, fan favorites have quickly emerged, with listeners gravitating toward “Garden of Eden” and “Vanish Into You.” Notably, the album also features Gesaffelstein on “Kiallah,” which includes a sample of David Bowie’s “Fame.”
