Call her Ms. Incredible! Lisa delivers a powerhouse debut album with Alter Ego. Released via RCA Records and her own label, LLOUD, the LP seamlessly blends elements of pop, electropop, dance-pop, hip-hop, and trap. She sets the tone with the opening track, “Rockstar,” which also serves as the lead single. Produced by Ryan Tedder and Sam Homaee, the song is primarily a hip-hop track but also ventures into hyperpop and R&B territory.
The collaborations with Rosalía (“New Woman”) and Doja Cat & RAYE (“Born Again”) are standout electropop gems, with the latter being a true masterpiece. On tracks like “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me)” and “Dream,” Lisa showcases her vocal prowess, with slower beats that allow her voice to shine. But there’s even more to enjoy on Alter Ego. The BLACKPINK member, in fact, returns to her early roots, displaying her signature rap flow on tracks like “Lifestyle” and “Fxck Up the World.”
Lisa also meticulously curated the album’s visuals. Each single is accompanied by a well-crafted music video. Her talent as a dancer shines in the videos for “Rockstar” and “Fxck Up the World”, both enhanced by stunning visual effects. Meanwhile, the visuals for “Born Again” and “New Woman” feel more like cinematic experiences.
The promotion of Alter Ego has been equally impressive. Lisa built anticipation by introducing five distinct characters—Roxi, Vixi, Sunni, Speedi, and Kiki—each representing a unique facet of her identity. Beyond the music, Alter Ego expands into the visual world with a 56-page official comic. Written by Lisa and illustrated by renowned Japanese artist MinoMiyabi, the comic brings the album’s characters to life, offering fans a deeper, more immersive look into their stories.
Overall, Alter Ego features 15 tracks and includes collaborations with Rosalía, Doja Cat, RAYE, Future, Megan Thee Stallion, and Tyla. Since two tracks are solo versions of her collaborations, we’ve ranked 13 of the 15 songs from Lisa’s highly anticipated debut album.
