Lizzo has shared a surprising piece of music history—she and SZA once planned to start a rock band together. In a recent Twitch livestream, the singer revealed that during a creative period spent in the studio, the two artists discussed forming a band called Pussy Lasers.
“We had this little period of time where we were just linking up in the studio, eating pasta, and drinking,” Lizzo recalled. “We were going to start a rock band called Pussy Lasers with an incredible other artist who I don’t know if she even wants to be mentioned, so I’m not going to mention her.”

While the band never officially came to life, the idea of Lizzo and SZA exploring rock together has intrigued fans. The two artists collaborated only once—on the single “Special,” released in early 2023. Lizzo had previously dropped her album Special in July 2022, featuring hit singles like “About Damn Time” and “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).”
Though Pussy Lasers never materialized, both artists have continued to dominate the music industry with their own projects. Lizzo has won multiple Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year for “About Damn Time,” while SZA’s album SOS became a massive commercial and critical success, earning her numerous accolades, including three Grammys. While Lizzo didn’t confirm whether the band could still happen, fans are now left wondering what Pussy Lasers might have sounded like. “That’s the crossover we didn’t know we needed!” one user wrote on X/Twitter. “If it ever happens, I’m here for it,” another added.
