Yesterday (Oct. 4), rumors have been buzzing about the potential headliners for the Glastonbury Festival in 2024, with whispers of an impressive lineup featuring Madonna, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Dua Lipa is set to headline the festival on Friday, followed by Coldplay on Saturday, and Madonna will close the festival on Sunday. An insider told the newspaper that “It’s the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres.”
For both Madonna and Dua Lipa, this would mark their debut as headliners, while Coldplay has previously taken the main stage four times (in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016).
However, this morning (Oct. 5) organizer Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury festival founder Michael Eavis, said the reported rumors about possible headliners – Madonna, Dua Lipa and Coldplay – are not true. In a statement posted on social media, she said they are still working on the final lineup: “As always, there is a lot of speculation and excitement about who will play Glastonbury,” she wrote, “We are working on the line-up day and night at moment, but it continues to change every day.
Just a month ago, Emily Eavis hinted at the possibility of a major American star gracing the festival’s stage, which many believed to be Madonna. The Sun reported that Madonna’s manager was in talks with Glastonbury organizers to secure a spot for the Queen of Pop next June. Furthermore, Eavis had previously mentioned that the legendary Sunday slot would be occupied by a female artist.
Last year, Glastonbury faced controversy over its choice of male-dominated headliners, with acts like Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John taking top spots.
Glastonbury Festival is scheduled for the last weekend of June 2024. While the confirmed headliners remain uncertain, the anticipation for a remarkable lineup continues to grow
