Madonna has revealed that it took just one unexpected DM to turn Sabrina Carpenter into a collaborator on “Bring Your Love” — but getting the connection started took longer than she expected.
During the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, Sabrina Carpenter made a surprise appearance alongside Madonna for the ceremony’s high-energy opening medley from Confessions II, which included their collaboration. Later in the night, Madonna shared the story behind how the two eventually made it into the studio together.

While accepting the VMA for Best Collaboration, Madonna recalled that Sabrina Carpenter’s team initially took five days to respond. Rather than waiting any longer, she decided to contact the pop star directly.
“When five days passed and I still didn’t get connected with Sabrina, I DMed her,” Madonna said from the VMA stage. “This is a true story. She answered me back, and within a week we were in the studio together.”
The story adds another layer to “Bring Your Love,” which became one of the most unexpected collaborations on Madonna’s Confessions II era. Released April 30, through Warner Records, the house and dance-pop track serves as the album’s lead single and pairs Madonna with Sabrina Carpenter across a production built by Madonna and Stuart Price, with additional production from Italian duo Parisi.
Commercially, the collaboration gave Madonna her highest Billboard Hot 100 debut since 2012 when “Bring Your Love” opened at No. 74. The single also reached the top 30 of the UK Singles Chart.
