Taylor Swift added two more milestones to her MTV Video Music Awards record Sunday night, winning Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” after receiving the inaugural Artist Director Award earlier in the ceremony. The victory gives Swift her sixth Video of the Year Moon Person and her 32nd competitive VMA win, extending both records she already held.
Taylor Swift’s latest Video of the Year victory follows previous wins for “Bad Blood” in 2015, “You Need to Calm Down” in 2019, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” in 2022, “Anti-Hero” in 2023 and “Fortnight” in 2024. No other artist has won the category six times.

The award also continues the remarkable VMA run surrounding The Life of a Showgirl. “The Fate of Ophelia,” the lead single from Swift’s 12th studio album, was released October 3, 2025, through Republic Records and was written and produced by Taylor Swift alongside longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.
Its commercial run quickly matched the scale of the album era. “The Fate of Ophelia” became Spotify’s most-streamed song in a single day and single week at the time of its release, while reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200.
In the United States, the song spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Swift’s longest-running chart-topper on the ranking. The song’s success also helped establish The Life of a Showgirl as one of the defining commercial releases of 2025.
Taylor Swift’s involvement with the “The Fate of Ophelia” video went far beyond a traditional artist role. She directed the visual herself, working with Eras Tour choreographer Mandy Moore, production designer Ethan Tobman and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, all of whom helped translate elements of her recent stage work into a cinematic setting.
The video features dancers from the Eras Tour and was developed through more than three weeks of rehearsals. Filming for the opening and dressing-room sequences took place at the Los Angeles Theatre, while behind-the-scenes footage later became part of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, where the finished video was screened twice.
