Mariah Carey has officially reignited excitement for her next studio album. On July 18, the pop icon shared a video on social media with one simple word—“Soon!”—alongside a video montage of past interviews where she discussed the making of her long-anticipated 16th album, MC16.
The video, carefully cut between years of footage, traces Mariah’s journey with the project—from initial concepts mentioned in a 2019 People interview to her latest 2025 updates confirming that the album is now complete. “I have about 11 to 12 songs,” she said in a recent Apple Music interview on June 30. “Some Mariah ballads, of course.”

MC16 has been years in the making, with fans closely following each update. The first taste of the new era came with “Type Dangerous,” the lead single released June 6 via Gamma/Apple Music. The track debuted at No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was voted Best New Music Release in our fan poll the same week.
Mariah also performed “Type Dangerous” at the 2025 BET Awards, joined by Rakim and Anderson .Paak, where she received the prestigious BET Ultimate Icon Award. She later took the stage at London’s Summertime Ball on June 15. As MC16 approaches release, Mariah is already in motion. She’s extending her Celebration of Mimi international tour into Asia this fall, with stops confirmed in Bangkok, Manila, Kobe, and Yokohama—timed to honor the 20th anniversary of her landmark album The Emancipation of Mimi.
