The Path to Heart Sold Separately
Mariah the Scientist first broke through with her debut album Master in 2019 and solidified her place in R&B with Ry Ry World in 2021. Tracks like “2 You,” “Aura,” and “Always n Forever” helped position her as one of the most appreciated and distinct voices in modern R&B. In 2023, Mariah departed from RCA Records and launched her own imprint, Buckles Laboratories. Her last album, To Be Eaten Alive, released in October of that year, featured heavyweights like Vory, 21 Savage, and Young Thug, but received mixed reviews.
Two years later, Mariah is now gearing up for Heart Sold Separately. The album rollout began on May 2 with the release of “Burning Blue,” a retro-tinged R&B ballad that became her biggest hit to date. The track debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning her first solo chart entry and praise from both fans and critics. Even Rihanna gave the single a nod, calling it a “karaoke favorite.”
Tracklist and Potential Features
Mariah has only teased the tracklist so far, sharing 10 blurred-out titles. It’s confirmed that Heart Sold Separately will include “Burning Blue.” The blurred titles appear to suggest a few collaborations. While no official features have been revealed yet, Coi Leray, JT, and Kali Uchis all commented on the album announcement. Kali Uchis, in particular, replied with “Ouuuuuu,” to which Mariah responded with the eyes emoji—hinting that the 30-year-old singer might appear on the record.
