Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise return to Coachella on April 18, joining Addison Rae during her Weekend 2 set for an unexpected live debut of “Drop Dead.” The moment unfolded on the main stage in Indio, California, quickly becoming one of the most appreciated collaborations of day 2.

Momentum built toward the reveal as Rae approached the final stretch of her performance. Addressing the crowd, she teased, “Have you heard any new music this week?” before launching into “Headphones On,” a standout from her 2025 album Addison. Midway through the track, the performance paused—and Rodrigo emerged to a surge of cheers, seamlessly joining Rae to finish the song as a duet.

Energy peaked immediately after. Following “Headphones On,” the pair transitioned into Rodrigo’s newly released single “Drop Dead,” marking its first live performance since arriving on April 17. The track, which serves as the lead single from her upcoming album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love (due June 12), had already opened with more than 10.7 million streams on its first day, debuting at No. 1 on Spotify’s Global chart.

Chemistry between the two artists carried the performance. Rae’s polished pop delivery paired with Rodrigo’s emotive tone created a contrast that translated well live, reinforcing the “pop girls” moment fans have been anticipating throughout the festival.

Rodrigo’s appearance also extends her evolving relationship with the festival. This marks her second Coachella cameo, following her 2024 guest spot with No Doubt during their reunion set, where she performed “Bathwater” alongside Gwen Stefani.
