Olivia Rodrigo is giving fans a first look at her upcoming “expectations” remix music video with Chappell Roan, teasing “a few surprises” just hours before the collaboration arrives. The pop stars’ highly anticipated team-up drops tonight, October 15, at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, alongside a video built around a colorful, retro television game-show concept.
Olivia Rodrigo announced the release time alongside an 18-second teaser, writing, “‘expectations’ feat. chappellroan is out tonight at 5 pm PT/ 8 pm ET along with a very special video with a few surprises!!!” The preview offers a rapid succession of glitchy visuals, neon graphics and deliberately distorted television imagery, setting up what appears to be a playful, highly stylized visual for the new version of the song.

Titled “The Big Expectations Show,” the fictional program borrows from 1980s and 1990s television promotions, complete with VHS distortion, marquee lighting and the on-screen branding “CHANNEL OR.” The teaser opens with fiery imagery and stacked lettering spelling “EXPECTATIONS,” before cutting to a close-up of pink lips singing into a microphone.
Olivia Rodrigo appears in several contrasting looks throughout the preview, including a white dress, veil and white-and-red sunglasses, followed by a black strapless top and gloves. The sequence then shifts to a multi-panel arrangement featuring Rodrigo and Chappell Roan in matching pink “adored” T-shirts, denim skirts, fishnet stockings and pink berets. The final moments offer another intriguing clue: a bright green game-show graphic featuring a red-haired woman beside a yellow convertible labeled “GRAND Prize!”
The announcement follows days of speculation about Chappell’s involvement in the remix. Olivia officially confirmed the collaboration on October 13, sharing promotional artwork featuring both artists seated on a yellow car with the license plate “XPECT8NS.” Before the announcement, a studio teaser posted by Rodrigo’s official fan account, @LiviesHQ, showed percussion and synthesizer tracks in a digital audio workstation alongside the question, “olivia does remixes now?”
Originally released on Rodrigo’s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, “expectations” is a synth-pop track examining the emotional standards and complications that can follow a breakup. Following the initial rumors, the song re-entered Spotify’s global chart at No. 159 as listeners returned to the original recording.
The collaboration also brings together two artists with a shared creative history. Producer Dan Nigro has played a central role in both Rodrigo’s catalogue and Roan’s breakthrough album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Chappell Roan previously opened for Rodrigo during a 2022 SOUR Tour date and joined the GUTS World Tour for an extended run in 2024. The pair also performed together at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome in August 2024, when Rodrigo joined Roan for “Hot to Go!” and its signature choreography.
