Sam Smith and Normani have reached a new milestone as the video for “Dancing With a Stranger” surpasses 1 billion views on YouTube. The achievement cements the 2019 hit as one of the defining pop collaborations of its era, extending its impact more than six years after release.
Directed by Vaughan Arnell and filmed in London, the visual pairs minimalist set design with holographic choreography, placing both artists in a sleek, futuristic home environment. That aesthetic helped the video stand out upon its January 29, 2019 premiere, later becoming the most-viewed music video in the United Kingdom on Vevo that year and the second most-watched overall on YouTube in the market.
The Billion Views Club entry marks Smith’s fifth video to reach the milestone, further underscoring their sustained digital footprint. For Normani, the achievement reinforces the lasting global reach of one of her most commercially successful solo-era releases following her tenure in Fifth Harmony.
Originally released on January 11, 2019 via Capitol Records, “Dancing With a Stranger” quickly translated into chart success. The track peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent 45 weeks.
Radio dominance further defined its run. The song was named the most-played radio track in the world in 2019, according to Forbes. The track later appeared on Smith’s third studio album Love Goes (2020), extending its lifecycle beyond the single format.
