Samsung has officially responded to Dua Lipa’s $15 million lawsuit over the alleged unauthorized use of her image on Crystal UHD television packaging, denying any intentional wrongdoing while pointing responsibility toward a third-party content provider.

In a statement issued following the singer’s May 8 legal filing, Samsung said the disputed image “was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes.” The company added: “Given this assurance, we deny any allegations of intentional misuse.

The response marks Samsung’s first public comment since Dua Lipa filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California earlier this month. Her legal team alleges the electronics giant used a copyrighted backstage photo of the singer across packaging tied to its 2025 Crystal UHD television lineup without authorization, payment, or endorsement approval.

According to the complaint, the image — identified in court documents as the “DL Image” — was captured during the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival and later registered under copyright number VA 2-479-685. Lawyers representing Dua Lipa argue the photograph appeared prominently on television boxes sold both online and in physical retail locations throughout 2025.

The lawsuit claims the packaging presentation created a misleading commercial association between the singer and Samsung’s products. Court filings specifically point to the placement of Dua Lipa’s image inside the mock television display printed on the boxes, directly adjacent to Samsung branding and product marketing materials.

Her legal team also cited examples of online consumer confusion, including social media users who reportedly believed the singer had entered an official partnership or sponsorship agreement with the company.
