It’s already been a week since Tate McRae released her third studio album, So Close To What. The LP was one of the most anticipated releases of February, as the Canadian singer continues her rapid rise, especially following the success of her sophomore album Think Later and the global hit “Greedy.” Ahead of the album’s release, Tate dropped three successful singles—“It’s Ok I’m Ok,” “2 Hands,” and “Sports Car”—which further amplified fans’ excitement. These high expectations translated into a strong first week of streams and sales.

So Close To What amassed nearly 186 million streams in its first week on Spotify, marking Tate’s biggest opening week to date. For comparison, Think Later debuted with 113 million streams in its first week in 2023. Nearly half of So Close To What’s total streams came from the United States, where it garnered 78 million plays.
The album’s impact was immediate. On Spotify, So Close To What debuted with 31.2 million streams on its first day, while “Revolving Door” racked up 3.4 million plays. Throughout the week, “Sports Car” climbed back to its peak of No. 17 on the Daily Global Spotify chart, with “Revolving Door” also breaking into the top 20. Tate herself saw a major boost in streams, soaring to the top 10 of the most-streamed artists globally.
Commercially, So Close To What made an impressive debut. In Australia, the album entered at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. In the UK, it debuted at No. 2 on the Official Albums Chart, just behind Sam Fender’s People’s Watching, making it Tate’s highest-charting album in the country. Looking ahead, So Close To What is on track for a major debut on the Billboard 200. According to Hits Daily Double, the album is projected to land at No. 1 with 170,000 units, securing Tate her first chart-topping album and the biggest debut for a female artist in 2025 so far.
