Tate McRae has a message for her fans: they may be looking for Easter eggs in all the wrong places. During her October 7 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the pop star joked that fans repeatedly miss the most obvious clues she and her team leave ahead of new music.

Tate McRae explained that her team regularly plants Easter eggs, but fans often build theories around details that have nothing to do with her plans. “I mean, my fans in particular, like we drop Easter eggs all the time and they get none of them,” she said.

Her example was particularly fitting given her latest announcement. According to Tate McRae, the title of her new single “Housewife” had effectively been revealed months ago during her Lollapalooza set, yet fans did not recognize it as an announcement.

“They’ll always catch on to things that are completely wrong,” she explained. McRae joked that fans might see her wearing sunglasses and immediately decide her next song is called “Sunglasses,” before adding, “Like, what?”

The actual clue was much more direct. “And so this was literally in my Lollapalooza set. It said ‘Housewife’ when the set started,” McRae said. “That was not even the Easter egg. That was like three months ago, actually telling everyone I have a new song called Housewife.” Her point was simple: there was no elaborate decoding required.

Tate McRae officially announced “Housewife” on October 7, revealing that the single will arrive October 15. The announcement came with a striking cover image of the singer in a red bikini standing beside a luxury baby stroller filled with cash in front of a lavish villa, accompanied by a wedding ring emoji.

The song marks McRae’s first new release in almost a year and follows the success of So Close to What, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album produced hits including “Sports Car,” “It’s OK I’m OK,” “2 Hands” and “Tit for Tat,” with the latter debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and giving McRae her third Top 10 hit.

Her expanded SO CLOSE TO WHAT??? deluxe edition added five songs: “Tit for Tat,” “Nobody’s Girl,” “Anything But Love,” “Trying on Shoes” and “Horseshoe.” McRae has also been building a broader visual identity around the next phase of her career, from the “Anatomy of a Popstar” concept at Osheaga and Lollapalooza to the gold imagery that dominated her festival performances.
