Every week, the British Phonographic Industry releases its updated list of the highest-certified songs in UK history. With certifications now heavily influenced by long-term streaming performance, the ranking highlights the rare group of singles that have achieved extraordinary multi-platinum milestones, reflecting years of sustained popularity across generations of listeners.
Several major hits sit at the 8x Platinum level, each surpassing 4.8 million units — from Oasis’ “Wonderwall” to Wham!’s enduring holiday classic “Last Christmas.” The 10x Platinum threshold — marking six million units — has been reached by only two songs: Lewis Capaldi’s emotional ballad “Someone You Loved” and, most recently, Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect,” which made him the first artist ever to earn two songs with 10x Platinum or higher certification in the UK.
