Britney Spears has shared a definitive statement about her future as a live performer. In a lengthy Instagram post, the pop icon revealed that she does not plan to perform in the United States again, citing deeply personal reasons. “I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons,” Spears wrote, adding that she hopes to one day perform abroad in a more intimate setting. She envisioned herself “sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair,” possibly sharing the moment with her son, whom she praised as “a huge star.” Spears specifically mentioned the UK and Australia as places where such a performance could happen in the future.
The post also addressed her much-discussed Instagram dancing. Spears explained that these videos are a form of physical and emotional healing rather than performance. “I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about,” she wrote, acknowledging that the clips can feel uncomfortable to watch, but stressing that they are part of her recovery and self-preservation.
Spears has been largely absent from live touring since 2018, when she wrapped the Piece of Me Tour. That run followed her successful Las Vegas residency and brought the show to arenas across North America and Europe. Despite its limited schedule, the tour was a commercial success, grossing over $54 million and ranking among the highest-grossing female tours of the year. It also earned a nomination at the People’s Choice Awards.
Since then, Spears’ relationship with the music industry has fundamentally changed. Her years-long conservatorship, which ended in 2021, reshaped public understanding of her career and autonomy. In recent years, she has been clear about prioritizing personal freedom over professional expectations.
