The Weeknd has just made music history—again. His hit single “Starboy” featuring Daft Punk has officially surpassed 4 billion streams on Spotify, making it the third most-streamed song ever on the platform.

With this milestone, The Weeknd becomes the first artist in Spotify history to have multiple songs each cross the 4 billion mark. “Blinding Lights,” which is on track to become the first with 5 billion streams, and now “Starboy” joins that elite tier—alongside Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You”, which currently stands at 4.46 billion.

Originally released in September 2016, “Starboy” served as the lead single from The Weeknd’s third studio album of the same name. Produced with the legendary French electronic duo Daft Punk, the song signaled an unexpected shift in The Weeknd’s sound, blending atmospheric R&B with sharp, synth-driven pop.

The track debuted at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to No. 1, where it spent 22 weeks in the Top 10. It also topped charts in several countries, including Canada, France, and Sweden, and landed in the Top 5 in the UK, Germany, and Australia. On Spotify, “Starboy” quickly became a fan favorite, racking up billions of plays over the years.

In 2018, the Starboy album earned The Weeknd a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Since its release, the title track has become a staple in his live performances and a fan-favorite around the world.
