Tyla has done it again. The South African superstar has officially set a new streaming record with her latest single “Chanel,” earning the biggest single-day streaming total ever by an African artist on the Global Spotify chart. On New Year’s Eve, the song pulled in a staggering 4.18 million streams worldwide, simultaneously climbing to a new peak of No. 8 on the chart.
With this achievement, “Chanel” surpasses Tyla’s own benchmark set by her breakout hit “Water,” which previously held the record with 3.9 million streams in a single day.
Released on October 24 via FAX and Epic Records, “Chanel” has been steadily gaining momentum for months. Produced by Ian Kirkpatrick and P2J, the track blends sleek pop production with Afrobeats-inspired rhythms. Its instantly recognizable hook — “How you say you love me? You ain’t put me in Chanel” — quickly became a viral sound across TikTok and Instagram, helping propel the song to global audiences.
The record-breaking New Year’s Eve performance builds on a string of historic achievements for the singer. Just days earlier, “Chanel” reached No. 10 on the Daily Global Spotify Chart with over 3 million streams, making Tyla the first African artist to score multiple Top 10 hits on the platform, following the enduring success of “Water.” The song has also performed strongly across international markets, reaching the top 20 in Australia, South Africa, Singapore, and the UAE, while charting widely throughout Europe and Africa.
