Yuqi has built a career that stretches far beyond her role as a member of I-dle. Born in Beijing, China, she moved toward K-pop after auditioning for Cube Entertainment and eventually became one of the group’s recognizable voices, while also establishing herself as a songwriter, composer, soloist, television personality, and actress.
Before debuting, Yuqi attended Beijing 101 Middle School and developed an interest in performing. In 2015, she auditioned for Cube Entertainment at the Cube Star World Audition Beijing Station, performing CLC’s “High Heels” and G.E.M.‘s “Bubble.” Three years later, she was revealed as a member of Cube’s new girl group and officially debuted with (G)I-dle on May 2, 2018, with “Latata.”
Her career quickly expanded beyond music. In 2019, Yuqi joined the cast of the Chinese variety show Keep Running, a role that helped introduce her to an even wider Chinese audience. She later hosted Learn Way and appeared on numerous Korean and Chinese entertainment programs, establishing herself as a versatile television personality.
Yuqi has also steadily developed her identity as a songwriter and composer. She made her songwriting and composing debut with “I’m the Trend,” a song dedicated to I-dle’s fans, before contributing to songs such as “Lost,” “Polaroid,” “Liar,” “All Night,” “Peter Pan,” “Doll,” and “Rollie.” Her work with I-dle has been complemented by collaborations with artists including Choi Ye-na, Alan Walker, and JVKE.
Her solo career began in 2021 with the single album A Page, featuring “Giant” and “Bonnie & Clyde.” She later made her Korean solo debut with the EP Yuq1 in April 2024, led by “Freak,” before continuing her solo releases with songs including “Radio (Dum-Dum)” and the 2025 single album Motivation.
Yuqi has also explored acting, making her screen debut in the Netflix series Celebrity in 2023. From her early audition in Beijing to her work across music, television, songwriting, and acting, her career has developed across multiple entertainment industries.
