Today, August 10, is the fifth anniversary of the release of Nicki Minaj’s fourth studio album, ‘Queen.’ The album was the follow up to the 2014 album ‘The Pinkprint’. ‘Queen’ was supported by three singles: “Chun-Li”, “Bed”, and “Barbie Dreams.” It was a commercial success, reaching the top 10 in several charts, including the US Billboard 200.

Delayed Release
“Queen” faced multiple delays before its release. Originally scheduled for June 15, 2018, the album’s release was pushed back to August 10, 2018. This was due to Nicki’s desire to perfect the album’s content and her interactions with her fan base.
“Barbie Dreams” Inspiration
The song “Barbie Dreams” is a track where Nicki humorously mentions a number of male artists in the industry. The song’s inspiration came from The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Just Playing (Dreams),” where he playfully mentioned female artists. Nicki aimed to pay homage to Biggie’s style while adding her unique twist.
Collaboration with Ariana Grande
In May 2018, through a Twitter announcement, Ariana Grande shared that Nicki Minaj had reached out to her in the morning and they recorded their upcoming musical collaboration, “Bed.” On June 4, Ariana responded to a fan on the same platform, hinting that there were multiple collaborations with Minaj set to release in 2018, including “The Light Is Coming.”
Competition with Cardi B?
In the opening track “Ganja Burn,” Nicki confronts her competitors, asserting their insignificance. She emphasizes her enduring and triumphant career, suggesting that they could never surpass her accomplishments. Many fans have speculated that a significant portion of the lyrics is directed towards the New York rapper Cardi B.
Eminem’s feature
The song “Majesty” features rap verses from Eminem. Nicki Minaj revealed that Eminem’s rap on “Majesty” is likely to be considered one of the best verses in history.
