After teasing a sonic evolution last November with “Pieces of Me,” pop-rock band Copper Lungs dive even deeper with Broken Beautiful—an 11-track album released independently and entirely self-funded.
In a new interview with InMusic, the band shared that this sophomore effort marks a bold step away from polished, “safe” sounds toward something rawer and more emotionally open. “This new sound really reflects who we are as people now,” they revealed. “We weren’t just writing for ourselves—we were thinking about connection… music that actually says something.” Thematically, the LP delves into real-life challenges, from love, loss, and grief to the healing that follows. In this sense, the album becomes a vehicle for the band’s emotional truths. The title track, “Broken Beautiful,” in particular, serves as a turning point, tying the entire album together with its blend of pain and perseverance.
Beyond its raw sound and emotionally charged lyrics, the album also marks a major milestone for Copper Lungs, as it is entirely self-funded. Releasing it independently allowed them to maintain full creative freedom—with no limits or restrictions.
Looking ahead, the band is preparing to ignite live stages throughout the summer, with a UK tour set for July.

In your first interview with InMusic, you told us that you were pushing your sonic boundaries. How would you describe the new identity and sound of Copper Lungs compared to your earlier work?
The new music is a lot more raw and emotionally vulnerable. Compared to our earlier stuff, which was maybe a bit more polished or safe, this new sound really reflects who we are as people now. Life has influenced the music in a big way, we’ve all been through things that made us want to dig deeper and be more honest in what we’re writing. We’ve evolved, not just as a band, but as individuals, and that naturally came through in the songs. This time around, we weren’t just writing for ourselves, we were thinking about connection, and what it means to make music that actually says something to people.
Can you tell us about your new album, Broken Beautiful?
Broken Beautiful is an 11-track album built around real experiences we’ve lived through. It focuses on themes like love, loss, and support, the things that shape you, break you, and build you back up. The title really sums it up: we all live our own version of ‘broken beautiful.’ It’s about finding meaning and connection in the messiest parts of life.
What’s the meaning behind the album?
I felt like the album needed to feel whole, like everything we were trying to say could be captured in the title. Broken Beautiful came from that idea that life is incredibly fragile, some days are amazing, others feel unbearable. That contrast really stuck with me. A big turning point for me personally was when my partner lost her dad a few years back. It triggered something I hadn’t fully processed, and a lot of that found its way into the songs. We wanted the album to be open enough that fans can take whatever they need from it, whether it’s just listening or feeling like they’re living those real moments with us.
Broken Beautiful is your most ambitious project yet. What does this album represent for you personally and as a band?
This album represents expression, growth, and passion for all of us. Writing in such an emotionally honest way isn’t easy, it’s deeply personal, and at times, it felt like we were putting our entire lives on display. But that was the point. Broken Beautiful is a reflection of where we’ve come from, what we’ve been through, and where we’re heading next. As a band, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created. It feels like a proper milestone and honestly, we’re just excited to keep building from here.
The album was entirely self-funded and released independently. What were some of the biggest challenges — and rewards — of doing it all on your own?
Financially, it was definitely tough. But in a way, that made it feel even more special knowing we pushed through and still created something we’re really proud of. It was worth every bit of it because we made something that truly represents us, and now it exists out there, forever. We didn’t cut corners. We spent what we needed to fulfill the vision we had, and because of that, the album feels 100 percent ours, no compromises.
What was the most rewarding moment during the creative process of the LP?
Writing the title track, Broken Beautiful, was a real turning point, it felt like the missing piece that tied the whole album together. That moment stood out, but honestly, the entire process was the most rewarding thing we’ve ever done. We didn’t just write these songs we lived through them. Every lyric, every note came from something real, and seeing it all come together was something we’ll never forget.
For those who haven’t heard Copper Lungs before, which track from Broken Beautiful would you say is the best introduction to your sound?
I’d say “Pieces of Me” and “Falling” are the best introductions to who we are as a band. They show both ends of the spectrum emotionally and sonically. You’ve got the hard-hitting choruses, the anthemic energy, and that big pop rock feel that’s built for massive stages. Those tracks really capture what Copper Lungs is all about.
Looking ahead, you’re heading out on a UK tour this July. What can fans expect from your live shows this time around?
Our live show is where we really shine. Performing together is something we absolutely love and when we hit the stage, we feel every moment, every lyric. There’s a real energy between us and the crowd. Our goal is simple: we want people to leave feeling like they were part of something special. Every tour, we push ourselves to level up the live experience, and this one’s going to be our biggest yet.
Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
We honestly feel like this album is just the beginning. The growth we’re experiencing right now as a band and as people feels incredible, and we want others to be part of it with us.
