How would you define your music?
My music is a combination of empowerment, emotion, and vulnerability, but this is still something I’m exploring and developing.
How did you choose your stage name, and does it hold any special significance for you?
My stage name is actually just my name and surname abbreviated. I always wanted to keep my name somewhat part of my artist project so I came up with K RHEN (short for Ksenia Reimchen).
Can you tell us about your new single “Shadow”?
‘Shadow’ is my newest single which I wrote with my very good friend and co-writer Jordan Round, who I wrote ‘Now Or Never’ with. It’s about feeling the lingering presence of your current partner’s previous partner. I wanted to make the melodies somewhat simple so the focus was on the relatable and conversational lyrics that capture the true vulnerability of the song.
What do you hope listeners will take away from this new song?
I hope listeners enjoy and somehow relate to the song, whether it’s directly or not. I hope they also find peace in acknowledging this vulnerability. It doesn’t necessarily have to be about a romantic relationship, it could also be about a situationship you’re in, or even a platonic friendship or a family relationship. I always aim to write my songs so they are universal and everyone can listen to it and enjoy it in their own way.
“Shadow” serves as a single from your upcoming debut EP. What can we expect from the project, and how does this new song fit into the larger creative vision for the project?
Expect songs that are in a similar theme to my previously released songs but with a twist. Songwriting for me is about feeling comfortable with my most personal feelings and sharing them with the world to hear and relate to, and ‘Shadow’ was one of my more vulnerable songs. This EP captures a particular time in my life where I was learning about heartbreak, self-love, self-worth, and resilience from the unfortunate and confusing things that life can throw at you. I feel that after finishing these songs, they helped me find closure in some experiences in my life. I have been waiting to release these songs for the longest time and I’m so excited to finally share them all with you so soon!
The EP will include two more songs which you haven’t heard yet but I have no doubt you will love them because they were so fun to write.
Will there be any other singles released before the EP drops?
No, my next drop will be the EP!! (I can’t wait any longer hehe).
What is a message you would like to give through your music, and why?
I hope listeners will find something to relate to or enjoy hearing in any of my songs. I hope you feel empowered, heard, understood, and fulfilled, that’s all I ever want to do because that’s what I admire most about my favourite artists.
