ROSÉ has added another record to the remarkable run of “APT.” The BLACKPINK star’s blockbuster collaboration with Bruno Mars has officially been certified 5x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), recognizing more than 5 million units sold and streamed in the United States.

The milestone makes ROSÉ the first female K-pop soloist in history to earn a 5x Platinum certification in the American market, further cementing “APT.” as one of the biggest global hits ever released by a Korean artist.

The achievement places ROSÉ in exceptionally rare company. Across the entire K-pop industry, only two other songs have reached the same RIAA level: BTS’ “Dynamite” and PSY’s viral phenomenon “Gangnam Style,” both of which also stand at 5x Platinum. No female K-pop solo artist had previously come close to that threshold.

Among BLACKPINK members pursuing solo careers, ROSÉ now sits comfortably ahead in terms of U.S. certifications. JENNIE and LISA have both secured RIAA-certified releases during their solo runs, but “APT.” has reached a level that no other female K-pop solo track has managed to achieve.

RIAA certifications combine traditional sales with streaming-equivalent units. Gold status is awarded at 500,000 units, Platinum at 1 million, and additional Platinum certifications are granted for each subsequent million units accumulated.

The certification is the latest chapter in what has become one of the defining hits of the decade. Released on October 18, 2024, “APT.” served as the lead single from ROSÉ’s debut studio album Rosie. The track arrived as the first release after her departure from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records and the beginning of a new chapter with The Black Label and Atlantic Records.

Its commercial impact was immediate and widespread. “APT.” spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, becoming the second chart-topper for both ROSÉ and Bruno Mars on the ranking. Earlier this year, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) named the song the best-selling global single of 2025, making ROSÉ the first artist from outside North America or Europe to top the organization’s annual Global Single Chart.

Success extended across virtually every major music market. In South Korea, the single ruled the Circle Digital Chart for 10 weeks. Australia saw history made when ROSÉ became the first female K-pop soloist to top the ARIA Singles Chart. Japan delivered another major breakthrough as “APT.” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, becoming the first Western-language song in more than a decade to accomplish the feat.

The accompanying music video also proved unstoppable. A few weeks ago, “APT.” surpassed 2.375 billion YouTube views, overtaking BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU DDU-DU” to become the most-viewed music video ever by a female K-pop artist.

Awards recognition followed just as quickly. “APT.” collected Song of the Year trophies at the MAMA Awards, Asia Artist Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards. The single also became the first K-pop song to win International Song of the Year at the Brit Awards. At the Grammy Awards, it earned nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, setting a new benchmark for K-pop artists.
