Miley Cyrus has officially opened the next chapter of her career with “Bass Persuades,” the first song from her upcoming 10th studio album of the same name. Released September 3, the track marks Miley’s first new music under Atlantic Records and introduces an era built around dance-pop energy, physical movement and a distinctly retro sound.

“Bass Persuades” is driven by a four-on-the-floor beat and a prominent bassline, blending disco influences with the polished synth-pop textures of the 1980s. Bright synthesizers, steady drum-machine patterns and brass-like accents give the chorus a larger, club-ready lift, while Miley shifts between low, rhythmic verses and airy melodic hooks.

The song’s lyrics center on the hypnotic pull of music and the dance floor. Miley contrasts that physical experience with modern dependence on screens and constant media noise, ultimately urging listeners to “go analog” and reconnect with what is happening directly in front of them.

Directed by Mert Alas, the “Bass Persuades” music video expands that concept into a cinematic nighttime spectacle. Miley performs alongside a large ensemble of dancers on a rain-soaked urban street surrounded by neon signs, storefronts and glowing traffic lights, with the wet pavement reflecting the saturated city lights.

“Bass Persuades” arrives just days after Miley announced the album on September 1. The project, due September 18, will be her first full-length release through Atlantic Records after 14 years with Sony Music and follows her 2025 album Something Beautiful.

The new era was preceded by a tightly controlled campaign featuring red-and-black imagery, mysterious New York billboards and social media changes that shifted Miley Cyrus’ branding toward the simple “MILEY” identity. Those clues ultimately led to Bass Persuades, her 10th studio album and a new musical direction centered on the power of rhythm.

Miley will also bring the album to the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and 18, marking her first performances at the venue. Watch “Bass Persuades” music video below.
