One year after launching her solo era, LISA may already be preparing its next chapter.
During a recent livestream, the BLACKPINK member appeared relaxed and visibly emotional as fans flooded the chat with messages. At one point, she read a comment that simply said, “looking for LISA new solo album.” She paused. No confirmation followed. But her wide smile and barely contained excitement spoke louder than any announcement.
The moment arrived on a symbolic date. February 28 marks the first anniversary of Alter Ego, her debut solo studio album, released in 2025 through Lloud and RCA Records. The livestream also came just hours after BLACKPINK’s new EP Deadline reshaped the group’s commercial narrative yet again.
According to early data from South Korea’s Hanteo Chart, Deadline sold 1.4 million copies within its first hours. It marks the highest first-day total ever recorded by a girl group in Hanteo history. The achievement places BLACKPINK in rare territory, making them the first girl group to have multiple albums exceed one million sales within 24 hours, following 2022’s Born Pink.
Against that backdrop, LISA’s subtle tease carried additional weight. Her solo trajectory has unfolded independently since her departure from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023, marking a decisive shift in creative control.
Released on February 28, 2025, Alter Ego introduced a 15-track set built around shifting personas. Developed alongside producers including Ryan Tedder, Ilya Salmanzadeh and Max Martin, the project explored hip-hop, electropop and trap influences. Guest appearances from Rosalía and Tyla featured on the standard edition, while digital versions expanded the lineup with Future, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Raye.
Commercially, the album delivered. It debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Album Sales chart in the United States. In South Korea, it reached No. 6 on the Circle Retail Album Chart.
Its lead single, “Rockstar,” climbed into the top five of the Billboard Global 200 and topped charts in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Follow-up releases “Born Again” and “Dream” both reached No. 1 in Thailand. Three singles entered the Billboard Hot 100.
