“Whatever ” — Kygo & Ava Max
We can’t help but start our weekly roundup with Kygo and Ava Max. The two artists joined forces on the single “Whatever,” whose chorus samples Shakira’s breakout hit “Whenever, Wherever.” The song has already amassed more than 2 million streams and is a must-add to your playlist!
“Skin and Bones” — David Kushner
Through metaphors and imagery, David Kushner explores and describes the feelings of a woman and a man, particularly a man who is attracted to a woman who is deceiving and dangerous, but he can’t resist her physical allure. In David’s words, the song captures the “ecstasy and salvation in the duality of love.”
“Beautiful Things” — Benson Boone
Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” is definitely the biggest surprise of the week. The song, which was teased on TikTok since last December, earned the biggest debut of the week on Spotify, gathering over 3 million streams. It’s definitely a song worth listening to.
“hostage” — Maggie Lindemann
Last Friday, Maggie Lindemann released the second single from her upcoming extended play “HEADSPLIT.” The song, titled “hostage,” features a dark and haunting sound, with the lyrics reflecting Maggie’s inner struggle and conflict. “[It’s] a cry for that person who can calm the turmoil inside me, a plea for solace amidst my own mental chaos. It’s raw and real – it’s a journey so many of us silently go through,” she said. The same dark atmosphere is also represented in the music video.
“No Strings” — X Ambassadors
Closing out our weekly roundup of new releases is “No Strings” by the indie-rock band X Ambassadors. The song serves as the second track from their upcoming album “Townie,” scheduled for release on April 5th. “No Strings” is inspired by their memories of riding bikes and hanging out with friends, themes also proposed in the official music video.
