May has officially arrived, and with it comes the first major New Music Friday of the month. With summer around the corner, the month’s first Friday feels like the fresh beginning of the year’s warmest season.
Leading the pack is Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Bring Your Love,” the long-anticipated studio payoff to their viral April 17 Coachella moment. Produced with Stuart Price, the track anchors Madonna’s upcoming Confessions II era ahead of its July 3 release while channeling early ’90s house-pop through sleek contemporary polish. Pulsing with club energy that recalls “Vogue” and the seamless dancefloor architecture of Confessions on a Dance Floor, the single pairs the Queen of Pop with one of today’s defining pop stars.
Kacey Musgraves takes a dramatically different route with Middle of Nowhere, her sixth studio album and one of her most regionally rooted projects to date. Inspired by her hometown of Golden, Texas, the record builds from post-breakup reflection into expansive sonic storytelling, leaning heavily into pedal steel, accordion, bluegrass, and Norteño influences. Following Deeper Well’s introspective tone in 2024, Musgraves now pivots toward a broader Western framework without sacrificing lyrical precision. The LP features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov.
Meanwhile, Zara Larsson arrives with perhaps the week’s most overtly pop-forward reinvention. Midnight Sun: Girls Trip expands her original Midnight Sun album into a large-scale collaborative remix experience, transforming its Scandinavian summer atmosphere into a global, all-female event. PinkPantheress injects UK garage sparkle into the title track, while Kehlani reshapes “Blue Moon” with added sensuality. Additional names include Tyla, JT, and Shakira.
Noteworthy releases also come from Lady Gaga, Halsey, Chris Brown, ILLIT, Sienna Spiro, Bella Kay, Lizzo, Maroon 5, Isaiah Rashad, North West, and more.
