5 Seconds of Summer are celebrating a major milestone. On December 3, the Australian pop-rock band marked 14 years of career, sharing an emotional message with fans across their social platforms. “Wow, 14 years,” the group wrote. “This band is nearly the same age each of us were when we decided to hang together and try to make some music in the first place. It’s only been possible for this long because of how much you have supported us, this music, and the beautiful little world that we’ve all built together. Can’t wait til we’re all still doing this 14 more years down the road.”

The anniversary arrives during one of the most successful chapters of their career, as the band recently scored an historic sixth No. 1 album on the ARIA Albums Chart with Everyone’s a Star!. Formed in 2011 by Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin, 5SOS first gained traction through YouTube, where their energetic covers blended pop-punk flair with raw teenage charisma. Those early videos helped secure opening slots for Hot Chelle Rae, but their global breakthrough came in 2013 when One Direction invited them on the Take Me Home Tour, exposing the band to arenas worldwide and setting the stage for their major-label debut.

In 2014, 5SOS released “She Looks So Perfect,” a massive hit that topped charts in four countries and propelled their self-titled album to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The success led to their first headlining run, the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour, and cemented their place in the mid-2010s pop-rock resurgence. Their second album, Sounds Good Feels Good (2015), showcased deeper themes and a more polished sound, earning another global tour.

After a brief hiatus, the band reinvented themselves with Youngblood (2018), a record that embraced sleek pop and alternative influences. The album became their third U.S. No. 1 and made history as the first Australian act with three Billboard 200 chart-toppers, while the title track surpassed 1 billion streams. CALM (2020) brought atmospheric production and introspective lyrics, hitting No. 1 in four countries, followed by 5SOS5 (2022), which leaned into mature alt-rock textures.

Their latest era has only expanded their legacy. In 2025, the group returned with the chart-topping Everyone’s a Star!, reaffirming their status as global hitmakers. To date, 5SOS have sold over 10 million albums, accumulated 7 billion streams, and played to more than 2 million fans, earning 10 MTV EMAs, five ARIAs, and a dedicated global following that has grown with them through every chapter.
