A$AP Rocky has finally opened up about why his long-awaited album Don’t Be Dumb has been delayed multiple times. In a new interview with ELLE, the Harlem rapper admitted that while legal issues played a role, family responsibilities were his main priority.
“I don’t want to primarily blame it on my case, but life was lifeing,” Rocky explained. “We don’t plan on having children, but when it happens, you gotta adjust and move with it. I gotta be present for my family, because that’s first.”

The comments shed new light on the rocky rollout of Don’t Be Dumb, which was originally announced at Paris Fashion Week in 2024 with an August 2025 release date. The album has since faced repeated pushbacks, attributed to sample clearances, leaks, and personal circumstances. Despite the delays, Rocky recently confirmed that the record is finished and ready to go, calling it his “best so far.”
The project will be Rocky’s first full-length release since 2018’s Testing, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Don’t Be Dumb has already generated massive hype, with expected contributions from Pharrell Williams, Metro Boomin, Madlib, Mike Dean, The Alchemist, and Dean Blunt. Several tracks have been previewed live or online, including “Highjack” featuring Jessica Pratt, “Ruby Rosary” with J. Cole, “Tailor Swif,” and “Pray4DaGang” with KayCyy.
Beyond the album delays, Rocky also spoke on the fallout of last year’s headline-making rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Addressing his decision to “fall back,” he clarified: “The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time, and that’s mainly why I fell back. I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that. What part of the game is that? What type of sh*t is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.”
