Over the past few years, the Billboard 200 has seen some of the biggest album debuts in history, with artists across genres breaking records and setting new milestones. The 2020s have been particularly impressive, with massive streaming numbers and strong physical sales helping albums reach extraordinary first-week totals. Taylor Swift leads the list with The Life of a Showgirl, which debuted with an unprecedented 4 million units in October 2025, making it the biggest opening week in Billboard 200 history. She also holds multiple other high-ranking spots, including The Tortured Poets Department (2 million), Midnights (1.58 million) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (1.65 million). Adele’s 30 also had a historic launch, opening with 839,000 units in 2021, making it one of the highest-selling albums of the decade. Other major artists like Drake, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd, and Beyoncé have also delivered massive first-week numbers. Travis Scott’s Utopia and The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow both surpassed 490,000 units, while Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time debuted with 501,000 units, marking the biggest opening for a country album. K-pop acts have also made a strong impact, with BTS’s ARIRANG debuting at 641,000 units, and Stray Kids consistently landing in the top rankings with 5-Star (249,500) and Ate (231,000).
