Anitta made a defining statement on her Saturday Night Live debut, delivering two high-impact performances that doubled as a global introduction to her next era. Appearing as the musical guest on April 11, the Brazilian superstar turned the iconic stage into a showcase of her evolving sound ahead of her seventh studio album.
Hosted by Colman Domingo in his first time leading the long-running NBC show, the episode marked a milestone: Anitta became the first Brazilian artist to perform as a musical guest in SNL history.
For her first set, Anitta performed “Choka Choka,” her new single featuring Shakira. Released just one day earlier as part of New Music Friday, the track debuted at No. 89 on the Daily Global Spotify Chart on April 11 with 1.7 million streams.
For the second performance, Anitta unveiled the unreleased “Várias Quejas,” in more intimate, toned-down set surrounded by flowers.

The timing aligns strategically with the rollout of Equilibrium, set for release on April 16. Announced on March 30 to coincide with her 33rd birthday, the project signals a tonal shift from the funk-driven energy of 2024’s Funk Generation, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. Lead single “Pinterest” introduced a more introspective narrative, rooted in childhood memories and self-reflection, while the broader album is expected to incorporate reggae influences and a more cohesive thematic direction.
