Ariana Grande is on track to add another No. 1 album to her résumé. Early projections from Hits Daily Double indicate that her new album, petal, is headed for a Billboard 200 debut with more than 300,000 equivalent album units in the United States, positioning it among the biggest openings of 2026.

If those estimates hold, petal will deliver the second-largest debut week for a female artist this year, trailing only Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which launched with 485,000 units. The projection would also surpass every previous opening week of Ariana Grande’s career, setting a new personal best nearly 13 years after her debut album introduced her as a chart force.

The strong sales forecast arrives just hours after petal posted one of the year’s biggest streaming launches. The album amassed 62.19 million Spotify streams worldwide on its first day, while all 12 songs simultaneously entered the Daily Global Spotify Chart. The title track debuted at No. 1 with 7.822 million streams, becoming Grande’s second global Spotify chart-topper of 2026 after lead single “hate that i made you love me,” which followed closely at No. 2 with 7.6 million streams.

The pop superstar also finished July 31 as the most-streamed artist on Spotify worldwide, further strengthening the album’s commercial momentum.

A No. 1 debut would extend one of pop’s most consistent chart runs. Yours Truly entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 in 2013 with 138,000 first-week units, followed by My Everything in 2014. Although Dangerous Woman debuted at No. 2 in 2016 behind Drake’s Views, Ariana Grande quickly returned to the summit with Sweetener, before thank u, next delivered her biggest opening to date with 360,000 units. Positions and eternal sunshine also debuted atop the chart, giving the singer six No. 1 studio albums before petal.

The album’s commercial success reflects the anticipation built throughout its rollout. Before release, petal closed its Spotify pre-save campaign with 3.22 million saves, while Grande described the record as her “most experimental” project, explaining that it was written from “an unfiltered rage.” The era also launched with a cinematic Christian Breslauer-directed music video that turned Hollywood’s obsession with perfection into a surreal visual narrative.
