Ariana Grande’s new album, petal, is proving to be more than just a streaming success. Less than a week after its release, Spotify has revealed how listeners interacted with the project over its opening weekend, highlighting the songs and lyrics fans returned to most as the album continued dominating the platform.
The figures arrive as petal continues its impressive commercial run. Fans tuned in en masse for the album’s debut on Spotify, while lead single “hate that i made you love me” maintained its hold at No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top 50. Four tracks from the album also currently occupy the Top 10 of Spotify’s U.S. Top 50, reinforcing the record’s immediate impact.
According to Spotify, “oh well” generated the platform’s most-shared lyrics from the album. The lines “my dead ends are gathered around,” “just so i don’t get hurt again,” “dressed as friends,” and “good luck on your way to hell” all ranked among the most frequently shared by listeners. Meanwhile, the lyric “but i’m not a victim b**** i’m” from the title track “petal” also emerged as one of the weekend’s biggest conversation starters.
Listening habits extended beyond lyric sharing. Spotify reported that the most-viewed lyrics belonged to “petal,” followed by “kiss me,” “like i do,” “oh well,” and “big feelings,” suggesting fans are closely engaging with the album’s storytelling while revisiting its standout moments.
The engagement adds to an already historic launch. Released on July 31, petal opened with 62.19 million Spotify streams worldwide on its first day, while all 12 tracks simultaneously entered the Daily Global Spotify Chart. The title track debuted at No. 1 with 7.822 million streams, becoming Ariana Grande’s second global Spotify chart-topper of the year after “hate that i made you love me.”
The album has continued gaining momentum throughout the week. Combined streams have already surpassed 500 million globally, while Ariana Grande has remained the No. 1 artist on Spotify’s worldwide Artists Chart.
Grande has also continued supporting the album with additional releases aimed at extending its first-week momentum. Following the digital-exclusive “hello, i love to sing” edition of petal, she recently released complete a cappella and instrumental versions of all 12 songs, giving fans new ways to experience the record while strengthening its commercial performance.
