Today, October 10, the 17th BET Hip Hop Awards will unveil its winners in a spectacular ceremony broadcasted on BET. Hosted by Fat Joe, the awards were pre-recorded on October 3rd at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
The nominations, revealed last month, showcased Cardi B and 21 Savage leading the pack, each boasting 12 nominations. Hot on their heels is Drake with nine nominations. Kendrick Lamar, who secured four nominations at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, has the opportunity to extend his record as the most awarded artist, with 25 wins. In contrast, Drake, if he clinches at least eight of the nine awards he’s nominated for, could make history as the first artist ever to secure 30 BET Hip Hop Awards.
21 Savage, GloRilla, Drake, and Lil Uzi Vert have all secured nominations in the top three categories: Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Hip Hop Album of the Year, and Best Hip Hop Video.
Latto, who snagged the Song of the Year award last year with her hit single “Big Energy,” has the chance to win back-to-back with her nomination for “Put It On Da Floor Again.” In the same category, Cardi B earned two nominations, one for “Put It On Da Floor Again” and another for her collaboration with GloRilla on “Tomorrow 2.”
The Best Breakthrough category shines a spotlight on eight emerging hip hop artists: Armani White, Central Cee, Doechii, Finesse2tymes, Ice Spice, Kaliii, Lola Brooke, and Sexyy Red.
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland will be honored with the Cultural Influence Award, while Marley Marl will receive the prestigious I Am Hip Hop Award.
