Chance the Rapper is gearing up for his long-awaited return, with his first full-length project in six years, Star Line, dropping this New Music Friday. The record follows his 2019 debut, The Big Day, and marks a new era shaped by new soundscapes and creative exploration.

Speaking to Rolling Stone backstage at Lollapalooza, Chance described Star Line as “steeped in travel and personal change,” drawing on experiences and lessons from recent years. The album’s title nods to Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, a historic shipping company central to Pan-African ideals. Musically, it blends hip-hop, soul, and experimental production, heavily influenced by his trips to Jamaica, Ghana, and international art fairs.

Star Line was announced on July 31, with its lead single, “Tree,” featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, dropping in early July to critical and fan acclaim. Produced alongside longtime collaborator DexLvL, the record is set to showcase Chance’s fresh sonic textures inspired by his travels, alongside the signature lyricism that made him one of the biggest independent rappers ever.

To support the album, Chance will embark on the And We Back Tour, a 15-date North American run promoted by Live Nation. The tour kicks off September 26 in Houston and visits major cities including New Orleans, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and his hometown of Chicago before closing October 20 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium. Ticket presales began August 12, with general sales starting August 15 via chancestuff.com.

As for the tracklist, the 32-year-old artist has not unveiled any details. However, he reposted on X a post claiming that Star Line contains 17 tracks, with guest appearances from Young Thug, Jazmine Sullivan, and Vic Mensa, among others.
