Conan Gray and Olivia Rodrigo are finally taking their friendship into the studio. Just hours before the release of Rodrigo’s highly anticipated third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love, fans have learned that Gray will appear on one of the record’s tracks, marking the pair’s first official musical collaboration.

The surprise comes via “honeybee,” a song Rodrigo recently revealed is her favorite on the album. While Gray is not listed as a featured artist, he contributes background vocals to the track, bringing together two of pop’s most closely connected stars after years of public support, shared appearances, and mutual admiration.

For fans, the news feels long overdue. Rodrigo and Gray have spent much of the past five years building one of pop music’s most genuine friendships, frequently appearing together at award shows, celebrating each other’s releases, and speaking openly about their bond in interviews. Despite endless speculation about a collaboration, neither artist had previously appeared on the other’s music.

You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love arrives on June 12 with 13 tracks and nearly 4 million pre-saves on Spotify, making it the platform’s most pre-saved upcoming album ahead of release.

Rodrigo’s latest era has produced some of the strongest commercial results of her career. Lead single “Drop Dead” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April and delivered the biggest Spotify debut of 2026 for a female artist. Follow-up single “The Cure” continued the streak, opening at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart, and debuting atop Spotify’s Daily Global Chart with 7.215 million streams.

Attention surrounding the project intensified further on June 6 when Rodrigo made a surprise appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona. During the roughly 50-minute set, she debuted “what’s wrong with me,” a collaboration with Robert Smith of The Cure that marked the first official featured collaboration of her career.
