Olivia Rodrigo’s new era is off to another explosive start. The Cure” has officially debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s Daily Global chart with 7.215 million streams, giving the singer her second global chart-topper of 2026 and further cementing the momentum behind her upcoming third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

The launch marks the second biggest debut of the year for a solo female release, trailing only Rodrigo’s own “Drop Dead,” which opened with a massive 10.7 million streams in April. With the latest debut, she also becomes the first woman to score multiple No. 1 hits on Spotify’s Daily Global chart this year.

Released on May 22, “The Cure” wasted no time making its commercial impact felt across platforms. The song simultaneously climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes chart on release day, signaling strong fan demand beyond streaming. Meanwhile, “Drop Dead” surged back into Spotify’s Daily Global top 10, jumping 17 spots to No. 8 with 4.059 million streams.

The release arrives as anticipation continues to build for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, due June 12. Rodrigo recently shed more light on the emotional weight behind “The Cure” during an appearance on The Elvis Duran Show, where she described the song as a meditation on the unrealistic belief that love can solve every problem.

It’s sort of about how when you’re younger, you think falling in love with someone will fix all of your problems and then, when you face love and reality, realize that is not the truth,” she explained.

That emotional honesty has quickly become central to the campaign. When announcing the track on social media, Rodrigo called “The Cure” “my favorite song on the album and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made,” immediately triggering a wave of fan anticipation online.

This latest milestone follows the blockbuster launch of “Drop Dead,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 17 and became one of the year’s defining pop releases. Earlier this month, Rodrigo delivered the song’s first live performance during Spotify’s Billions Club Live event in Barcelona, celebrating her growing collection of billion-stream tracks.
